Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 30, 2026
Hiking Isochrone (“the app”, “we”, “us”) maps how far you can hike in the time you have and lets you record your hikes. We built it to respect your privacy: there are no user accounts, no advertising, and no third-party analytics or tracking. Most of what the app does happens entirely on your device.
In short: We don’t operate a server that collects your personal data. We don’t ask for an account or email. We include no ads, analytics, or tracking SDKs. Your hikes, saved routes, and settings live only on your device.
Location
The app uses your device’s location to:
- center the map and work out which trails you can reach (this reachability is computed on your device); and
- record a hike with live distance, pace, and elevation — including while the screen is locked (background location) — only while you are actively recording.
Your precise location is processed on your device and is not sent to us or stored on any server we operate. Two narrow exceptions, described under “Third-party services,” send limited location information to third parties.
Health data (Apple Health)
If you turn on “save to Apple Health,” the app writes each recorded hike to Apple Health as a Hiking workout (distance, elevation ascended, and the GPS route). The app does not read any data from Apple Health. This data stays in Apple Health under your control and is governed by Apple’s privacy policy.
Purchases
Premium (“Summit”) subscriptions are sold and processed by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your payment-card details. Purchase verification is handled on your device by Apple’s StoreKit.
Third-party services
The app relies on a small number of third parties to function:
- Apple — Maps (MapKit) renders the map; HealthKit, StoreKit, and the App Store provide health storage and purchases. Your use of these is subject to Apple’s privacy policy.
- Open-Meteo — when you open a route’s elevation profile, the app sends that route’s starting coordinate to Open-Meteo’s public elevation API to look up the ground elevation there. No identifier is attached. See Open-Meteo’s terms.
- Cloudflare — trail map data is downloaded as static files from our host on Cloudflare. These requests indicate the general map area you are viewing (a region roughly 55 km across) and, like any web request, include your IP address in standard server logs. We do not use those logs to identify you.
We have no other third-party data recipients.
Data storage and retention
Saved routes, recorded hikes, your preferences, and a short-lived crash-recovery snapshot of an in-progress hike are stored only on your device. You can delete a saved route or hike in the app at any time. Deleting the app removes all of this data from your device.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new effective date.
